This space is home to the process of sharing the collected pieces of a remarkable journey. Diary excerpts, dream recollections, photographs, memories: All to be sorted through and re-examined.
I grew up in North Texas. Often, I heard my parents say we were blue-collar, middle-class, working folks. Democrats. Union supporters. Gun owners. Southern Baptists on Sundays. Weekends were spent with cousins and grandparents, aunts and uncles. Summers were hot. Holidays mattered. Pride and shame permeated everything, and for good reason. Keeping secrets was the norm.
This is simply my story, my version of events. I’m ready to share it now. There’s a deep desire to finally say things out loud. Maybe doing so will help someone else. I want to believe it will help me make peace with it all. Or at least stop feeling so much shame.
Even though it may feel like we’re all alone, there really are people out there that want to help.
